Once again a competitor at the IOM races has received serious injuries resulting in him needing urgent medical treatments at a cost of over £110000-00 to the family, the insurance, Clubs and the IOM Government cant or wont cover this.In this case time is a major factor if he is to have a good chance of recovery and a normal live. In the past fund raining events have been held to help individual riders and I must thank all who have put these on and contributed to them. I would like to ask you opinions on the following to see if an approach should be made to the IOM Government with a view of putting a £5-00 travel Levi of all travel bookings to the Islands races with all the monies being put in a dedicated fund to help cover such costs in the event that a rider needs specialist treatment that insurances etc wont cover.

Guilty as charged I'm afraid I missed this post first time around. I do agree however with the proposal. Something similar was proposed on the iomtt.com forum last year although I don't recall the actual intended beneficiaries. I do know that one forum member approached the Authorities and IOMSPCC on a formal basis and their response was a little lukewarm I'm afraid. Administration overheads being sited as the problem I think. I've heard no more since. I for one would be happy to make a donation if a suitable fund were created by the IOM Govt.

I dont agree. Millions of pounds are brought to the IOM by visitors to the racing. Extra insurance is available to All ACU licence holders should they wish to pay for it. The minimum comes with the licence fee. Responsibility for your own actions in your chosen sport srings to mind instead of asking everyone else to pay for it. Additionally separate cover is also available for those who wish to take out more specific policies. You may find that no replies are a more subtle way of putting this point across!

But you dont mind watching the racing for free, Try going to a BSB meeting and see what the costs are. Its obvious that you know Fuck All about competing at the races, seeing what its costs a rider to give you free entertainment, its attitudes likes yours that will end road racing

Who the hell do you think you are talking to? I pay for all my own racing - completely without any help from anyone and have done so for the past ten years. I own all my own bikes and pay for everything so sounds as though Im actually in a better position to comment than you are! May I suggest you put your brain into gear before your mouth starts running off and stop coming on to sites such as this to cause trouble!

Maz,
Sorry about this, I spoke to Colin last week-end Re the fact that I had put a temporary ban on him, due to people complaing about his postings.
It seems that my words fell on deaf ears, therefore his membership has been deleted.

Oh Maz. So sorry that you were given such a venemous comment. I'm surprised that he dosent know who you are. And you a regular competitor at Frohburg. I made a point of knowing all the Irish and uk riders when I was there, not just the one.
You're a star, run great bikes and are more experienced than a lot on here. You were entitled to be mad.

am i not on the understanding, that all riders have/should, have enough cover to go racing, going by the post im at a loss, as to how the medicial bill is so high. surely everyone who races the mountian, and else were have enough insurence to cover them racing. if the rider in question had no cover, then the fault lies with the acu/tt, for permitting him to race in the first place

Thanks for your comments Ang really nice of you. I love my bikes and spend all I have on them! I think Colin just got a bit carried away without putting his brain into gear because he didnt like that I disagreed with him! Rest assured next time I see hom we will compare notes! Joe the ACU ensures that TT MGP riders have the basic insurance cover this comes with your licence. I assume (I dont know) that the MCUI run a similar system. Extra insurances are available at different levels but of course you have to pay extra. When ACU riders travel across to Ireland Europe etc they have extra insurance with their start permissions to cover medical costs and repatriation. Again you can choose the coverage etc. Like anything in life you pays your money and takes your choice. I know a broker in London who places the personal insurance for the WSB and Motogp riders and the cover is available. I think I know who Colin is referring to as he posted his comments just after a fund raiser on the IOM. This racer has had extensive treatment from the NHS and I am sure that he will continue to need more for the foreseeable future. It may be that specialist care will be available quicker privately in England hence the costs quoted.
