The Dunlops are heading for Skerries ... as are the Pirellis, Michelins, Metzlers and Avons … yes we are talking tyres. Over 250 tyres will be setting down some rubber on the famous Skerries 100 circuit on the 3rd and 4th July 2015. Road Racing has been a part of this community for nearly 70 years. The Skerries 100 Road Race is the oldest and most prestigious of all national Road Races in Ireland and our event is a magnet for riders who are drawn by its history, real racing atmosphere and racing challenges.
Our 2015 event was kicked off in style on Friday night with our Press Launch held at Skerries Golf Club. We had a fantastic turnout and many thanks to everyone who made it along. Declan Moore Commercial & Affinity Manager responsible for AXA Bikecare and Andrea Cassells, Public Relations Specialist for AXA Ireland were in attendance and expressed their delight in being a part of this North County Dublin sporting event. We were thrilled to welcome along Cllr. Mags Murray, Mayor of Fingal who is 100% behind the Skerries 100 and is looking forward to being in attendance on the 3rd and 4th July.
Susan Plunkett takes on the Clerk of the Course position for 2015 and with assistant Clerk of the Course Thomas Garry they plan on implementing some changes to benefit the riders and making the event as enjoyable as possible for all involved.
Our race weekend begins on the 2nd July in Skerries Mills when bikers from all around the country come together to celebrate their machinery and the old circuit. A parade lap takes place and the community come out to line the streets in support. This year we have chosen St Michael’s House, Blood Bike East and Camphill Communities of Ireland as our charities to benefit from entry to our parade lap. Sign on starts at 6.30pm at the Mills and the cost is
€10/£10 per entry.
On the 3rd July we get down to business with our practise and qualifying sessions starting from 2pm until 9.30pm. On the 4th race day kicks off at 9am and the crowds gather early to watch a full days racing. Spectator entry is €20 this year but this price also includes your official race programme for the weekend and all proceeds go to the racing fund. The cost of running a road race is staggering and LMCSC take on the challenge to run 2 races in a matter of months apart.
We have a fantastic line up of national and overseas riders filling up the grids and we are delighted to see so many newcomers to the roads this year. The sunshine has been requested and the team are in full preparation mode.
Not long now to go with only 40 days on the countdown…… will you be there?
