Wilson Craig rider Derek McGee took part in his first North West 200 last week, and he was delighted with his first real fast outing on the teams Honda Machinery.

As a newcomer to the event, he was only allowed to take part in three races, and he chose the Supersport and Superbike classes for the main race day.

After qualifying on Tuesday and Thursday, Derek competed in the first Supersport 600 race, finishing in an excellent 12th place. Later that evening he took out his own 650 Supertwin Kawasaki, and finished in a brilliant 5th place.

The morale was high in the team, and race day on Saturday, saw Derek go out in the Supersport 600 race, and again he was delighted with his second 12th place in such a competitive field.

The first Superbike race was red flagged, and Derek felt that his rear shock wasn’t working right and decided to change it. Unfortunately he didn’t get it sorted in time for the race, deciding to have it right for the main North West 200 Superbike race.

Unfortunately for the organising club, they were forced to cancel this race, as the weather was really having an effect, with high winds blowing across the course.

Wilson Craig was very happy with the team’s performance over the few days “Everything went very well, and the bikes are flying. It was unfortunate that the feature trace had to be cancelled, but we are now looking forward to the TT in a few weeks’ time”

Derek said “I was delighted with the strong team atmosphere, and everyone worked so well. The bikes are really flying, and I am really happy with the 600, and my results in both races. It was unfortunate that we didn’t get a run on the Superbike, with the back shock going in the first race that was red flagged, and then the main Superbike race cancelled. We have a bit of work to do before the TT, and I am happy with the way we are progressing, and really looking forward to the challenge that the TT will bring”
