Two Stroke Racing in question at Armoy. The Club are still looking for sponsors for a number of their 2015 races, that’s according to Clerk of the Course, Bill Kennedy.

This year, for the first time in seven years, there have been many changes to the Armoy Race sponsors and although the Club is confident of another great year there are some concerns over key race sponsors including the 125cc and 250cc races.

The Club, as previous advocates of two stroke racing, where individual club members have even personally donated monies in addition to presenting perpetual trophies, believes that two stroke racing is an integral aspect to the sport and should be encouraged at all levels.

Clerk of the Course, Bill Kennedy, said, “It is important to us that those starting out in road racing have the opportunity to give it a go at a national road race. For us it is key that these two classes continue to exist and breed the best and brightest of road racing’s future stars. There have been a lot of changes in our sponsors this year; I don’t think there is any one reason for that but the culmination of all of this has proved challenging but not impossible.

“Our races to date have attracted thousands, it is a great event and the profile of the Armoy Road Races have increased year on year. The Channel 4 programme last year was a great addition and an excellent way to show all that is great about our sport.

“With the recent news that the Joey’s Bar Motorcycle Club and Gary Dunlop will run a new team in the 125cc and 250cc classes with Sam Wilson at the helm, it’s important to the Club that these races are fully supported and sponsored, thus giving young lads like Sam and others the chance to race and progress. There is no doubt that many riders will want to see two stroke racing continue – for us it is the life’s blood to the rest of road racing – it’s where the young ones start before they progress to the 600cc and 650cc classes.

“It really does fall to the two stroke riders to keep these classes alive andI’d urge two stroke riders to get their entries in as soon as possible. Entry forms will be available to download, as of Thursday 26 March, from our website. Once we’ve an idea of the number of two stroke riders we will do everything in our power to make it happen but sponsors are essential.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to ask anyone who would like to be associated with the Armoy Road Races and wants an initial chat to drop us an email at info@amrrc.com or call me on 07734 776694.”

Bike Week runs from Sunday 19th July until Saturday 25th July 2015 with the SGS International ‘Race of Legends’ featuring on the Saturday 25th July 2015.
