The Wilson Craig Racing name is one of the best known race teams in the paddock, and this year Wilson has decided to move to one of the brightest up and coming stars of Irish Road Racing, Derek McGee. Derek McGee is a 28 year old HGV Mechanic, and he is better known as the “Mullingar Missile” by his large following of fans. Derek started his racing career with a brief run out for two meetings in 2008, in the Clubman’s Championship on an R6, where he finished a creditable fourth in his first event.

It was 2010 that Derek decided to have a full blown go at the Clubman’s Championship, and while he didn’t start until mid season, he really stamped his mark on the tracks.

He obtained his road licence just in time for his “Local “race at Walderstown in 2011, where he announced his arrival in fine style, taking a win in the Support Class.

He went on to win nine road races that year, and he really set the mark on the Irish road race scene. He obtained some good results in his first open season in 2012, and at the end of the year he decided to go to Australia to earn money to go racing with the “Big Boys” in 2013.

He arrived back for the start of the 2013 season, and purchased a Kawasaki Superbike from Adrian Archibald, and while it took him a while to get used to the big bike, he was always in the hunt on the National Scene. Last season Derek took the Irish 600 Supersport road race Championship, and he was second in the 650 Supertwin championships, as well as finishing on the podium in the Twin class at the Ulster Grand Prix. His riding style impressed Wilson, and he is looking forward to a new challenge with the”Missile”

Honda Machinery is again the choice for 2015, and Derek will have at his disposal a Supersport, Superstock, and Superbike for the road race season, where he will contest the “Big Three Internationals” the North West 200, the Isle of Man TT, and the Ulster Grand Prix, as well as most of the National road races, and selected short circuits.

Derek will be a newcomer to both the North West and TT, but he has already been the “Island” to learn the famous course.

“I have been to the Island twice, and while I spent the first trip on my own, the second one was much better, as I spent three days there, with the help of Milky Quayle. I am really starting to get to grips with the course, and I know it will be a major challenge for me and Wilson Craig Racing.

I am delighted to be part of the team, and I look forward to getting the results that the team deserves” said Derek.

“I am looking forward to the new challenge with Derek, he has impressed me over the past year, and I know that he will do the bikes justice, when he takes to the track. He is a clever rider, and also very fast, and we look forward to the challenge of the new season” said Wilson.

Wilson Craig started his racing team in 2008 and the businessman and bike supporter has had some of the best road racers on his famous machinery, Keith Amor was the first, and we have seen Guy Martin, William Dunlop, and Cameron Donald all race for the team. The team will be testing in Donington Park within the next few weeks, and after that the first planned races meeting will be the Easter meetings at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown, as well as another test prior to the first road race of the year at Cookstown.
