British Superstock 1000 champion Danny Buchan set the Sunflower Trophy meeting alight as the Essex rider claimed his maiden success in the feature race at Bishopscourt.

Buchan, who was crowned British champion following a sensational season on the Tsingtao Kawasaki, proved unbeatable as he powered to Sunflower glory at the 1.8-mile County Down track.

The English star reeled in Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson to take the lead and pulled away to win comfortably, with Belfast’s Andy Reid shining on the Milwaukee Yamaha as he claimed the last place on the rostrum.

It was a superb performance by Reid, who was making his Superbike debut on the YZF-R1.

James Egan on the MWR Kawasaki, Alastair Seeley (Mar-Train Racing Yamaha R6) and Jamie Hamilton on Wilson Craig’s 600cc Honda were the top six.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin led the race briefly but crashed on the opening lap and was ruled out of the restart.

However, the British Supersport star claimed a double in both 600cc races, beating Seeley and team-mate Wilson in race one before holding off Wilson in the second encounter to complete a brace, with Seeley taking third on this occasion.
