Portadown man Marshall Neill will start as a big favourite to add to his run of victories at Bishopscourt this season at this weekend’s inaugural David Wood Memorial Trophy races.

Neill scooped a hat-trick at the Adelaide Masters round at the Co Down track in the Superbike class last month and is currently in terrific form on the Ryan McGill Joinery Kawasaki Superstock machine, picking up another four wins at the latest Masters round at Mondello Park at the end of August.

The veteran racer’s opposition in the Wiz Racing Superbike races on Saturday includes Mark Glasgow, Alistair Kirk, Declan Hoey, Phillip McNally, Stephen Thompson and Jamie Hamilton, although recently crowned Irish Superbike champion Cody Nally looks set to miss the event.

A first prize of £400 is on offer along with the Joe Lindsay Trophy.

The meeting is being promoted by the Motor Cycle Road Racing Club of Ireland and a particular emphasis has been placed on the 600cc Supersport races, with five-time world champion Joey Dunlop’s manager David Wood instrumental in bringing the class to Northern Ireland and establishing the lucrative Regal 600 Championship.

Backed by Pirelli, the Supersport races have been granted top of the bill status with £800 going to the overall winner along with the David Wood Memorial Trophy.

The line-up includes Jason Lynn, Christian Elkin, Mark Conlin, Robert English, Jamie Patterson, Carl Phillips, Richard Glasgow, Robert Kennedy and Conor Parkhill.

Lisburn man Phillips tops the Irish championship by 63 points from Lynn, who holds a lead of 17 points over Phillips in the Ulster championship going into this weekend’s meeting.

The class has provided some incredible racing over the past few weeks with a number of diferent winners scaling the top step of the rostrum and more of the same is expected on Saturday.

Nutt Travel will sponsor the ‘Sail to Pole’ qualifying sessions for the class, with the 10 fastest competitors from the first session progressing to final qualifying to determine the final grid positions, with £100 going to the rider securing pole.

A full programme of support races will be held, with Emerald Road Racing Magazine backing the Supersport and Superbike Cup classes, while Robinson Concrete is on board as the sponsors of the Supertwin and Production Twin races.

Nutt Travel will sponsor the Moto 3 (125GP) races, while the Sidecars also feature this weekend, when the Killinchy Club will present the Edwin Neill Trophy to the overall class winner.

The programme also includes the Pre Injection/250GP machines and the Production 125cc/250cc races, which offer young riders the opportunity to gain a foothold on the racing ladder.

Arai Helmets is on board as the sponsor of the ‘Man of the Meeting’ award, with £300 up for grabs to competitors across all classes along with a new Arai helmet.

Admission to the Ulster and Irish Championship meeting is £10, including a race programme, with under 16s admitted free of charge.

The 16-race programme is scheduled to commence at approximately 11am, with practice getting underway at around 9am.
