The 2014 Irish road racing season started with Cookstown B.E. Racing winning at the Cookstown 100 and it ended at Killalane in North County Dublin with the John Burrows owned team on top of the box once again.
Although Dan Kneen missed the Killalane event due to the foot injury picked up at the Ulster Grand Prix, Michael Sweeney represented the team with distinction, winning the 250GP and Supertwins races, before finishing third in the Grand Final behind Michael Dunlop and Jamie Hamilton.
Sweeney won the 250GP race after a race long fight with Seamus Elliott and that means that Burrows' RS250 Honda machine finished its racing life on a winning note. The rapid two-stroke machine is now looking forward to a pampered retirement.
Burrows returned to his Dungannon base after a highly enjoyable weekend. He said: "It was good to keep our winning run going but we didn't get it easy, Seamus Elliott looked a real threat to Michael in the 250 race until the last lap when our man pulled the pin and came home two seconds clear.
"Overall it's been a great season for the Cookstown B.E. Racing team. We have won two Irish titles, two Ulster titles and taken 19 race wins. Dan took twelve, the UGP Superstock being the pick of the bunch, while Michael put us top of the result sheets on no less than seven occasions.
"Road racing in Ireland may be finished for the year but we are hoping to make one last appearance - at Macau. Dan is fighting hard to get fit for the Far East race and is currently visiting a hyperbaric chamber twice a day in the Isle of Man. He will soon visit his consultant in the Royal Victoria Hospital and if, as expected, he gets the green light, we will be booking plane tickets for a long haul flight.
"Well done to the Loughshinny Club who celebrated 30 years of racing at Killalane with a great chat show and parade lap, both of which I was happy to take part in. The chat show had legends like Eddie Laycock and Phillip McCallen recalling some great races while the parade lap featured McCallen, Brian Reid, Steve Cull and many more.
It was nice to rub shoulders and ride alongside top men like those."
