Belfast Newsletter

The organisers of the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix have revealed that Frenchman Pierre Favre is the rider who suffered serious injuries in a crash during the Dundrod 150 meeting on Thursday.

Mr Favre came off at Rock Bends in the Lightweight race and is in a critical condition at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

A statement issued by the Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club on Friday said: “The Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club can confirm that Pierre Favre is the rider who was injured after an incident during the Lightweight race at the Dundrod 150.

“Pierre, who is from France, is currently in a critical condition at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

“We have no more information to release about the nature of his injuries at present and will issue a further update when appropriate.

“Thank you for respecting the privacy of his family at this time.”

Prominent English rider Danny Webb was also involved in a crash on Thursday, sustaining suspected fractures.

Webb, from Kent - a former world championship Grand Prix rider - came off at Joey’s Windmill during practice for the Ulster Grand Prix Supersport class.

Practice was restarted after a delay, but Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston scrapped the session after receiving reports that some riders had ignored waved yellow flags when Russ Mountford slid off at the Lindsay Hairpin.

Pierre Favre has been flown home today. His partner Annabelle and his family have been overwhelmed by the help and support they have received and would like to thank everyone for their generosity and care.
