Castledawson rider Nico MaWhinney got his Irish and Ulster Supersport 600 Championship season of to a solid start at the MCRRCI Enkalon Trophy Races at Bishopscourt in Co-Down at the weekend.
MaWhinney, who was riding the NEI Motorsports ZX6R Kawasaki, finished in two solid fourth places in both the Supersport 600 races, but the Castledawson rider knew himself, that only for a slow start in both races, he could have been battling for the lead, and even a race win.

Nico MaWhinney: "today was a good days racing in near perfect conditions.  I am still getting used to the NEI Kawasaki but as time goes on, things are improving.  I am very happy with the bike and only for me having a problem getting of the line in both races, I firmly believe that I could have run at the front with David Haire, Keith Amor and Carl Phillips.   The bike is definitely good enough to win, I am sure about that.  I lost a little time in race one as I was right behind William Dunlop when he slid off the Tyco Suzuki at turn two, and it took me a little while to get back into the groove again.     I'm looking forward to the Easter Monday races at Kirkistown, and hopefully we can get the NEI Motorsports Kawasaki onto the podium".
