A rider has been killed in an accident on the last day of Northern Ireland's North West 200 motorcycle road races.

He has been named as Mark Buckley from Lough Lowland in Scotland.

Mr Buckley had been a regular competitor at the North West 200 event.

This year he was racing for the new Splitlath Redmond Racing team and had been due to compete for them at the TT races in the Isle of man in June.

North West 200 Event Director Mervyn Whyte said “We are devastated by the news that 35 year old Scottish rider Mark Buckley has died in hospital following an incident during the Superstock Race at today’s International North West 200. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jayne and we extend our deepest sympathies to the entire family circle. There were no other riders involved in the incident.

I am sure that Mago did not want to put in a posting of this nature but note the time it was posted well after the end of the meeting. Elsewhere Mago gives a link to the official NW200 condolences board.

We all hate these happenings and hope to get a race over without serious incident.

Big D.

Derek,

Despite receiving numerous requests for information, nothing was posted until an official announcement was made,
