Title: Derek McGee - Cookstown 100 Report Post by: Mago on April 28, 2015, 07:33:57 am The Cookstown 100 got the Irish Road Race season underway last Saturday, and it was a fantastic start for Wilson Craig Racing team rider Derek McGee, when he took a brilliant second place in a very exciting 600 Irish Championship race. The reigning Irish Champion finished just 0.739 of a second behind William Dunlop, with Dean Harrison in third.
The first race of the day for the team, was the invitation 600 race, and again Derek was to the fore. Dicing for second place behind William Dunlop, he hit a neutral, and this caused him to over shoot dropping him from second to fifth, and after a great battle with James Cowton he finished in a fine 5th place. In the opening Superbike race he was delighted with the power of the new bike, and at the end of lap one he was in third behind Derek Sheils and Guy Martin, Michael Dunlop got past Derek after three laps, and at the flag Derek finished in 4th place. The feature race of the day was the KDM Hire Cookstown 100, but there was disappointment for Derek, after the clutch burned out on the first lap, leaving Derek to finish down in 14th place. Team Owner Wilson Craig was delighted with the day’s work, “We did a lot of work on the bikes post Easter Weekend, and you could see that this has made a big difference, especially with the 600. We are still improving, and I am delighted with the start we had to the season” Derek was also in good form with the weekends work, “Practice went very well, and the changes made to the 600, showed its true potential. The Superbike is flying, and we are looking forward to Tandragee next week” The next outing for the team will be the Tandragee 100 on Saturday 2nd May. Jack Corry, Press Officer WCR. |
