Richards was caught napping by the safety car at Oulton

HM Plant Honda's Glen Richards reckons he was caught napping in the first British Superbike race at Oulton Park on Sunday when he was busy wondering about his still-injured leg when the safety car pulled into the pits.

The likeable Aussie is still walking with a heavy limp after his Knockhill accident and, as the field circulated behind the pace car, he was thinking about his leg and didn't see it go im

"In the first race I cannot believe I was so stupid. The pace car came out which I used as an opportunity to give my leg a bit of a rest, but the only problem was I was still thinking about my leg rather than realising the car had gone in and lost a load of time. I think it's the most embarrassing thing I have ever done in my race career," said Richards.

"Going into this weekend I wasn't sure how much my leg would be able to stand up to. I'm frustrated that I wasn't able to do better but happy that I gave it my all and was able to return for the last race of the season and finish all three races with reasonable positions."
