Ellison goes fastest in first BSB practice
Airwaves Yamaha's James Ellison has set the quickest time in this morning's opening British Superbike free practice session at Silverstone, holding off team-mate Leon Camier by half a second.
The Kendal man set put together a string of laps right at the death of the 50-minute period to depose Camier at the top of the timesheets with two minutes to go and then cemented his position a lap later.
Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton was third fastest, two-tenths off Camir's pace while Chris Walker, on the Motorpoint Yamaha, was fourth and rounds out a theoretical front row.
Ellison set the initial pace with a 1'27.492 in his first string of laps and remained fastest for 15 minutes until Camier started a run which saw him drop the bar to a 1'27.212.
Buildbase Kawasaki's John Laverty installed himself in third not long after but Ellison was back in front on the half hour, putting in a 1'27.125 which was bettered by Easton a couple of laps later.
It took Camier anohter ten minutes to knock the young Scotsman off the top of the pile, lapping in a 1'26.833 which was good enough for position one until Ellison came out for his final run.
Relentless Suzuki's Ian Lowry was knocked out of fourth at the death by Walker while Laverty dropped to sixth with Tommy Hill, on the sister Hydrex Honda in seventh. Lowry's team-mate Alastair Seeley was eighth quickest riding the Evo-spec GSX-R1000.
HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes was ninth fastest, 1.3s off the pace, while Simon Andrews, on the MSS Colchester Kawasaki, was tenth. Once again, Gary Mason is the leading Superbike Cup man.
