BMW Motorrad's home race at the Nurburgring showed for the second time in a row that the German manufacturer is rapidly getting closer and closer to becoming a true competitive force in World Superbike. In a weekend that was made even more difficult by the changeable weather conditions, Troy Corser confirmed that his exploit at Brno, when he actually led the race, was not a flash in the pan, and he brought the S1000 RR machine home in eighth and sixth place. With Ruben Xaus once again absent, the Spaniard's place was taken by the young British rider Richard Cooper, who found the going tough and crashed out in both races.

"Generally I think this was a good day for us and we were able to hold our ground after Brno" said the Australian. "We are now dicing with the top guys and that shows how much we have improved since the start of the season. The bike is easier to ride, more comfortable, more consistent and I'm having fun riding it! Now I can put the laps together without a problem. I got a good start in the first race and was a solid fourth for the first ten laps. Then the rear started spinning a bit when I picked up the throttle and I could not prevent some of the guys getting past me. We made a bit of a change for the second race and I very nearly got the holeshot! It was good to be in contention with the leaders for a while and now I am waiting for the team to make the next step up, so that I can consistently challenge the leaders. But the main thing is that we are still improving. Before the day began, I thought I'd be about the top six or so and I think our results were very good when you consider that there are eight or so factory bikes out there and they've all got more experience than us."
