Firstly, may I express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the roadracing fan who sadly lost his life while watching todays inaugural Armoy Road Races.. also my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the rider and other spectator involved...
Was a sad and unexpected end to a very well organised, attended and weather favoured event...
Thought and best wishes to all concerned
Paul

I watched the news earlier, and Mr McCooks son said that neither himself, nor any of his family held anyone responsible for the 'freak' accident that caused his fathers death, and that they all wished that the meeting be held in the future.
I find that a very gratious statement to make in which must be a very difficult time for them, and would like to applaud them for it.
Mr Hill McCook was apparently "not an avid" racing fan, and will always be remembered by riders and fans around the racing circuits in Ireland.
Rest in peace Hill McCook

I would have been happy to have sat way up in the field/hedge (photo Belfast Newsletter) where Mr McCook had been sitting. It was indeed a freak accident. Sympathy to the whole family, his injured friend and all riders involved in this incident.
In comparison, where we got to sit at Athea (essentially anywhere you wanted), level with the road with no bales and little marshalls in the area, and who in the racers opinion who was with me, is an accident waiting to happen. We didnt feel safe at all!
We all know the risks for riders, but sometimes forget that attending race meetings, is also "at our own risk". Im like everyone else, you never think that anything like this could happen to you and sadly it can happen.
